Art Vilandre founded Vilandre Heating (Fuel Yard, Air Conditioning & Plumbing) in 1935 in a 169-square-foot office on the corner of North Seventh Street and Seventh Avenue North in Grand Forks, ND. The expanded business now occupies the entire block and is known as Vilandre Heating, Air Conditioning and Plumbing Inc.
When Vilandre began operation, coal was a primary heating source at the time. Vilandre started installing Winkler Coal Stockers, which was the first type of automated heating system. When fuel oil became available in this part of the country, Vilandre began delivering fuel oil and installing Winkler Low Pressure Oil Burners. A complete sheet metal shop was added to enhance the installation of oil and gas furnaces. With the new expansion of the business, Ardell “Casey” Vilandre decided to join the family business after graduating from college and serving two years in the military.
Once air conditioning made its way into the region, Vilandre expanded its business to include air conditioning installation and service. As the business continued to grow, Vilandre added a seamless gutter division in 1976, which provides full-service residential and commercial installations, remodel and repair services.
Twenty years later, in 1996, Vilandre expanded services once again to include a full-service plumbing division, which offers a complete line of plumbing installations, services, products and sales for any size plumbing job.
